Denmark: Planned modernisation of the the Danish payment infrastructure

During the next few years The Danish Bankers Association and Central Bank plans to introduce several new infrastractual updates to modernise and harmonise the Danish payment infrastructure:

During the second quarter of 2012, credit card payments (Dankort payments) made on weekends and public holidays will be deposited into business accounts one day earlier than today.

By the end of 2012, automation and further improvements for corporate institutions to make larger payments quicker via The Central Banks payment system, Kronos.

In 2013, introduction of a new intraday clearing for account transfers, making it possible on weekdays to make payments within the same day.

In 2014, a new system where payments for smaller amount can be carried out, around the clock, seven days a week, so that the receiver has the money shortly after payment is made.
