Last week, on 23rd January 2019, the EU has finally adopted its adequacy decision on Japan. This makes Japan the first country under the GDPR which data protection framework has been recognized as comparable to the EU. In parallel, Japan adopted its equivalent decision, recognizing the EU as having an adequate level of data protection similar to Japan.
