The German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe, the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Japan (AHK Japan) and the Japanese-German Business Association (DJW) are pleased to welcome you to their third “German Economic Roundtable” networking event in 2018.
Mr. Markus Loening – former Human Rights Commissioner of the German government – will outline recent developments of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) within the EU and Japan. Even though sustainability has been frequently discussed over the past decades, it was not until most recently that the EU took legally binding action (“Guidelines on non-financial reporting”, 2017) and issued frameworks for the promotion of labor rights, decent working conditions and environmental protection in global supply chains (“National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights”, 2016). With these, the EU reinforced priority to the responsibility of enterprises for their impacts on society. Above that, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) covering social and economic development issues such as poverty, hunger and gender equality.
The speaker will give input on the importance of the political and corporate developments, the feasibility and potential future strategies in order to take a leading role in implementing CSR and ESG within our societies.
